    Dwarven civilizations build!

Post  felinoel on Tue Jan 17, 2012 3:36 am

    Dwarf Country.

If anyone is not familiar with the Millenaire mod then see here.
It is just a mod that adds NPCs who build towns and you interact with them in various ways like trading and quests and whatnot.

Not only all that but the mod is highly customizable, which is good since the official version is mainly set in historically accurate 11th century. Let's make a dwarven culture! The heads of the villages shall be Honeydews of the Yogscast and I asked but since he used the skin from a free premade skin site or something it is available for use anywhere.

I am looking for people to help me build, this is the reason why I've been wanting mycelium, because I like the coloring of that and there will be mushroom farmers so I felt that a ground floor of mycelium would be pretty cool. Anyone interested in helping me build?

We will need to have names for the different villages, like maybe this village is a farming village (of mushrooms), this one is a mining village, and more. As well as various lone buildings like maybe a lone mine or something.

    Village types:
    Mushroom farmers
    Miners
    Lone Miner
    Combination of all
Combination of all in a different style (maybe a swamp only version)

    Building types:
    Mushroom farm
    Quarry
    Temple
    Refinery
    Discuss more!

    wha?
i kind of dont understand, you want to make a mod? that functions like the villages from millenair, but dwarven theme,
but what you need help in is, in the buildings, and village structure, right? im not much of a creative builder, but but i think dwarfs didnt use much wood, so maybe cobblestone, stone, and stonebrick, should be the primary blocks according to the building tier and upgrades, i think Cosmic is a great builder, try to ask her for building ideas

Ah no, see the Millenaire mod is extremely customizable and there is a whole 'library' of fan made content.

I just want to make a dwarven culture and I need help with designing and building, this culture will of course be underground btw

well, if they live underground, then they should spawn near ravines, that way it looks a bit natural for dwarfs to live there, since they were great miners and smiths, (apparently)

Well Millenaire works only by biome, not by specific things like ravines, but I figure just designing up some villages should be fine

Elf civilizations exist already in the Imaginations add-on pack.

EDIT:If I recall then so do dwarves but not a dwarven culture per se... plus it isn't underground as doing underground civilizations are difficult...

EDIT:Also this thread is of me asking for help with this, wanna help?

I can help with ideas and stuff.. But not building.. however- idk about underground, what about when u use the wand on a block? how will that work underground? what if you use it on the surface for the dwarven people? I suggest their towns being based on a mountain. when u spawn one, a giant mountain appears and they can build into/onto the mountain. Razz idk.. but underground sounds terribly hard and almost impossible to program correctly- especially if you wanna put them in ravines.

lol yea the whole mountain thing was what I was planning, maybe only 8 blocks high though max.
Though the issue I am having is the ideas and stuff so, thoughts?

I guess there will need to be a town hall, archives, inn, farm, mine, mason, and ummm forge? But what else could it use?

well, since its underground, thus no wood,
i guess you dont need wood choppers,

    but to replace wood choppers,
youll need someone who organizes stone,
    like,
miner brings back cobblestone, dirt, and gravel,
the organizer stores and, well, organizes, them, XD
but his/her primary job is to make stone out of, lets say,
4 cobblestone, and also make stone bricks out of 4 stone,

as for buildings, their not really buildings, but,
    caves,
enter from gate, which is on the side of the mountain,
dig down around 30 blocks in a 45 degree angle, XD
and enter the main area, to which have hallways to
left and right and foward, to where the mason, smith and miners
    work,

Oh a cave entrance might be cool, I was just thinking of a ladder with a trapdoor entrance mostly myself.
Ah yes of course, forgot about the smith.

No, you need a wood chopper. If you dont have barrels then you cant store all the wonderful dwarven booze.

Besides, it annoys the elves, and thats ALWAYS a bonus

lol I like the annoying the elves point so maybe there could be one town that uses wood though since they are subterrestrial I think most towns should stick to building with rocks...

Eh, just an idea but you could always do insanely huge underground cavern and build a city hanging along the walls, and maybe a waterfall from surface. XD

It depends, What do you need help with? If there's any crazy programming stuff then I'm underqualified; if it's just building on Minecraft then I might be of some use. =D

Well which kind of village would you want to get started with?

I'm thinking it would be best to start with the smaller ones.

All right, I'm not sure how any of the programs/mod stuff you all were talking about, but an idea for a small village and wood gathering: Isolated small forest village at one cave entrance surrounded by mountain biomes kind of like a small valley? Whenever I hear Dwarves I usually picture them being more isolated. =/
Like I said though, I'm not sure how you are doing this either through a server or MCEdit. But I have access to both, so just tell me what to do.

I know this might be put on hold due to server relocation but this video I found has a huge underground city at about 10:40, kind of like how I was thinking, but with people who are a lot better than me at planning. XD
